This isn't me gatekeeping, I swear

I'm glad I went to college, but.. Maybe don't?

College was a unique experience for me, but you know what?

I'm still glad I went..

..Even despite the dumpster fire that is the IT industry in general thanks to AI.

With my broken-ass body, there's not a lot else I can do, and I sure as shit can't do a physical trade job now (not that I was very well-equipped physically for it in my youth).

You, however?

You might have a shot, and you know what?

It's definitely a more secure kind of job than programming, design and many other degree-focused industries are.

Look: Don't listen to the Mike Rowes of the world.. The right-wing assholes who shun formal education despite making their living thanks to it.. You do what you want to do.

I will caution you, however, that a lot of industries are being severely disrupted by AI. Once the bubble pops, who knows what state industries like mine will be in.

Hell, maybe the bubble will only bleed out some of the excess hot air and end up becoming a stable part of the economy (although I doubt it).

Either way, you've probably got a better chance of making good money and ensuring a steady stream of work if you study things like electrical engineering, plumbing, HVAC and more.

Seriously, and those industries can be just as interesting and challenging as programming (well, I can speak for electrical engineering just because I've studied it a tiny, tiny bit for giggles).

Maybe track down the modern equivalent of one of these beauties? Or hell, even buy the old-school retro one? I miss mine. I might have to go on an eBay hunt again soon..

..Anyway, the meatspace industries have always been worthwhile, but if you want real career stability from the start? You absolutely should go into a trade.

And seriously, fuck Mike Rowe and his performative bullshit.
